Conflict v Resolution, through Tolerance and Love, are
clear slogans for this powerful short Film for Web Directed and Edited by Jane S.
Linter. Thread of Man the Documentary is an exclusive
behind-the-scenes close-up look at the work of world-famous Photographer, Artist &
Director David LaChapelle in collaboration with the young, up-and-coming
Fashion Designer, and oil scion, August Getty for his Spring/Summer
Collection 2016 "Thread of Man". This surprise
"live" fashion installation event is created and Directed by David
LaChapelle and follows a private invitation-only 500 VIP sit-down dinner at
Universal Studios, Hollywood on the backlot. Getty chose models that represented difference as well as sexuality.
Among them were amputee model Lauren Walter, as well as trans icons
Carmen Carrera and Gigi Gorgeous (the latter recently joined Getty at
Paris Fashion Week as his muse).
The scene is a
mirror reflection of Getty’s LA upbringing - A Blade Runner sci-fi
classic futuristic set in a not-so-distant 2019 Los Angeles, against local
landmarks the Getty Center and Getty Villa built by his family, providing the
inspiration for the set. Last month, the
oil scion made a big celebrity splash when Rachel McAdams
wore one of his backless, head-turning numbers to the Oscars on the Red Carpet,
“But for this
event there was no sign of a red carpet anywhere” said Linter “I was so relieved”
instead Getty selected unusual male and female models who represented current social topics including amputee model Lauren Walter,
and transgender world famous icons Carmen Carrera
and You Tube star Gigi
Gorgeous and Celebrity Makeup Artist Sharon Gault .The
camera takes you down a Western street scene past giant logos depicting Heaven
& Hell on either side of the street - its your choice! TV sets
depicting “Hell” play loops of Donald Trump and the Kardashians behind wire
fences with yellow “caution” tape crime scene in complete chaos and mayhem with Celebrity Makeup Artist Sharon Gault aka Mama Makeup with MakeupForever depicting the late drag star “Divine”
Long time muse and inspiration for David LaChapelle,
Sharon Gault will be appearing on the front cover of David’s new book
published by Taschen. A wedding scene
provides the grande finale with Gigi Gorgeous walking down the aisle with
August Getty to the amazing choir put together specially for the event by David
himself Renda and The Shine Your Light Choir. Linter says.
“It was such a
night to remember, and I only hope I was able to convey the message which is
the theme of the LaChapelle and Getty collaboration - the constant
struggle between conflict and tolerance in today’s world. Following the private dinner, guests are invited to walk down
the street of the surprise set of a dystopic world dividing "Heaven"
and "Hell" while behind glass windows, wrapped in plastic
backdrop, models dressed in Getty's avant-garde leather designs, pose as
trance-like Mannequins in the windows of the little shop fronts making up the
Western Town. TV sets piled up show loops of Donald Trump and the Kardashians
closed off with yellow caution tape, a car crash with Celebrity Sharon Gault
reincarnated as "Divine" against graffitti and plastic mannequins
piled up on top of one another, across from a hand-clapping happy gospel
group "Renda and the Shine Your Light Choir" send out
the message of love singing versions of Michael Jackson's "Man In the
Mirror" and other classics, such as "Oh Happy Day"
and "Testimony". Then we get the grande finale, a mock wedding
with transgender model Gigi Gorgeous as the bride, and her bow August
Getty walking down the middle of the street flanked by all the models including
Transgender Carolinea Carrera and Amputee model Lauren Walker. Just when
we need it the most, this message of Tolerance and Love gets delivered right on
time loud and clear. Choose your path in life, and reap the outcome of your
choices. Reflect, look at yourself in the mirror, and see how you can change
you to affect your environment, lifestyle, life and be more tolerant of
your fellow man.
Linter and DP Frankie X. Ollervides, take us
quickly into the core action of the piece with a featured hand clapping gospel
choir, Renda
and The Shine Your Light Choir. Titled by LaChapelle and put together
especially for the event,. They are a big part of the live Fashion Art
installation and unveiling of the SS2016 fashion collection by 22 year old oil
scion August Getty. The documentary is tied together with random interviews and
commentary from behind the scenes and the man in the mirror himself, David LaChapelle. “We
received a phone call around 6.00 pm for a show that was starting at 7.00 pm” says
Linter calmly. “We
had no idea what to expect, I made the story up as I went along in my head”.
But with a 15 year career covering red carpet celebrity news, in NY, London, LA
from Premieres, to special events, Linter is all too familiar with the last
minuteness that is LA, “this was nothing
unusual” she says “ it was just like
getting a call for another last minute Hollywood red carpet event” she said.
“I thought, this
would make a really interesting short documentary piece because it’s such a
rare and unique opportunity to be invited behind-the-scenes in the make-believe
fantasy world of the icon David LaChapelle” she said ”people will want to
take a second look at it, mostly because they won’t be able to believe what
they are seeing!”.
